Former Hawks Owners Sue Insurance Company for Unpaid Claims

The former owner of owners of the Atlanta Hawks basketball team have filed a lawsuit against their former insurance carrier, New Hampshire Insurance Company. The lawsuit claims breach of contract regarding settlement claims that were handled by Danny Ferry, the former general manager.

The lawsuit also lists Bruce Levenson as a plaintiff in the lawsuit, since at the time he was the controlling partner. The lawsuit does not mention the current Hawks owners of the Hawks basketball team.

The lawsuit was filed in Fulton County Superior Court on September 13, 2016. The basis of the lawsuit is a civil claim based on breach of contract and bad faith insurance. The basketball team was insured under a policy that was aimed at covering certain losses that pertained directly to employment practices including, but not limited to workplace torts and wrongful termination.

The current Hawks owner states that they are completely aware of the complaint, but the people who are involved in the lawsuit no longer have ties to the company.

Because the complainants no longer have ties to the company, the Hawks baseball team has no comment on the matter.

According to a court order, the amount of the claim is being kept confidential. The lawsuit also states that that AIC refuses to admit that a claim was made or even that a policy had been in place.
