His career as a serial entrepreneur started after graduating from law school in 1993. He, along with a friend of his named Brad Keywell, bought an apparel store in Wisconsin named Brandon Apparel. Six years later, Lefkofsky and Keywell started an internet company called Starbelly which specialized in promotional products. Lefkofsky, along with Keywell, continued to start new business ventures. Lefkofsky’s most recent business venture, Tempus Labs, founded in 2016, is a completely new industry for him. Although he doesn’t have a background in genetics or medical research, he was inspired to begin Tempus Labs because of his wife’s struggle with breast cancer. During her illness, Lefkofsky studied breast cancer and the hospitals that were treating her and found that the current technology and cancer research was behind. This inspired him to create a company to improve the current state of cancer research and technology.
